Dr. Frumkin began his academic journey studying physiological psychology, focusing on the interaction between the body’s biological mechanisms and behavior. He earned a Master’s and Ph.D. from McGill University, where his groundbreaking research examined the interplay of nature and nurture in survival instincts, such as poison avoidance in rats.
After two years of conducting addiction research at the U.S. Army’s Biomedical Laboratories, Dr. Frumkin pursued a medical degree and completed a residency in emergency medicine. His medical career spans 36 years, during which he practiced in both community hospitals and military academic medical centers, focusing on aging or Alzheimer’s research and treatment.

A Lifetime of Service
Dr. Frumkin is a Fellow and Life Member of the American College of Emergency Physicians, with active involvement in their Geriatric Emergency Medicine Section. He is also an Emeritus member of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine and the Academy of Geriatric Emergency Medicine.
Even after retiring from his civilian role with the Department of the Navy in 2017, Dr. Frumkin has continued his commitment to education as a volunteer faculty member at the Emergency Medicine Residency at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia. His unique perspective as a seasoned researcher and author and his personal experience as a senior citizen allow him to provide invaluable insight into the complexities surrounding aging and Alzheimer’s.
